The shift away from state-subsidized reliance marks a critical turning point for the Hungarian plastics industry. To break out of this loop and reclaim the self-sustaining development and innovation capabilities of the pre-2000s era, Hungarian companies must pivot toward market-driven growth, technical autonomy, and high-value-added production. Shifting the Strategic Mindset To regain its historical innovation capabilities, the industry must transition its core drivers from external aid to internal capabilities: Moving away from purely low-cost contract manufacturing toward proprietary product design, custom compounding, and specialized tooling. Moving away from simple packaging product to complex packaging solutions and systems.

This region remains largely untapped and disconnected from the broader Central European circulation. Events targeting this area—such as recent Plasticsmeeting in Belgrade, Serbia—serves as vital integration points to plug South Central European businesses into the primary European polymer supply and recycling chains. We haven't yet exhausted all the possibilities, so we decided to organize another edition of the Central European Plasticsmeeting - Szerbia in Belgrade before moving on to Romania. On March 16-17, 2027.

The days of commodity dominance in the North are shifting. Companies in Poland and the Czech Republic are increasingly demanding specialty polymers, technical compounds, and high-performance engineering plastics. They need advanced materials that support complex applications, specialized manufacturing, and strict sustainability goals. Therefore, we decided to organize the Zlín edition of the Central European Plasticsmeeting in a joint project with LachNer in Zlín on September 7-8, 2027.
